Move a missing-CAD part out of the sourcing queue

Today

A discontinued supplier, an old machine and a worn component leave maintenance teams without the geometry needed to brief suppliers.

With Voluminate

Start with the evidence at hand. Get a shape for identification and rough quoting, or recover drawing-based CAD for engineering and supplier review.

Who it’s for

Teams

  • MRO managers
  • Spare-parts managers
  • Maintenance engineering
  • Procurement

Industries

  • Rail
  • Energy
  • Process plants
  • Industrial machinery

Processes

  • Casting
  • CNC machining
  • Additive manufacturing

Two sources. Two different starting points.

Photos → near-net-shape

Identify the part, communicate its form and prepare ROM supplier conversations. Photo-only NNS is not a production-ready replacement model.

Drawings / scans → editable CAD

Recover dimensioned geometry. Add Engineer Checked or Engineer Built to prepare a production model within your engineering-release process.

The workflow

From source evidence to your next decision

  1. 01

    Gather the evidence

Upload a photo or an archived drawing. Record the function, interfaces and dimensions you can confirm.

  2. 02

    Choose the right output

Use photo-based near-net-shape for identification and ROM, or drawing-based AI CAD for editable geometry.

  3. 03

    Resolve fit and function

Use Engineer Checked or Engineer Built to review or rebuild the geometry needed for a production model.

  4. 04

    Brief the supplier

Share the agreed model, material, tolerances and inspection requirements through your existing sourcing process.

What you get

Identification and supplier screening

A near-net-shape model helps communicate the part's form and assess potential suppliers before investing in detailed engineering.

Recover nominal geometry

Archived drawings and scans provide design dimensions; compare them with field evidence to distinguish intended shape from wear.

Production-model support

Engineer Checked reviews the agreed geometry; Engineer Built provides a parametric rebuild for your engineering release process.

Source & deliverable evidence

From physical evidence to reconstruction candidates

The cast-part photo illustrates the source evidence available to maintenance teams. The candidate gallery below is a separate Voluminate example, showing how alternative reconstructions can be compared.

Questions about spare parts

What can I get from a photo alone?

A near-net-shape (NNS) reconstruction for identification, communication and rough-order-of-magnitude (ROM) quoting. A photograph does not establish production dimensions or hidden geometry.

What changes when I have an old drawing or scan?

Legible views and dimensions enable drawing-based editable CAD reconstruction. Add engineering review or a rebuild when you need a production model.

Can a worn part define the replacement geometry?

It provides useful evidence, but wear is not nominal design intent. Supply drawings, measured interfaces and functional requirements to resolve the intended geometry.

Should I choose Engineer Checked or Engineer Built?

Choose Engineer Checked for review of a reconstruction within an agreed scope. Choose Engineer Built for a full parametric rebuild or where critical details need engineering completion.

Can this support obsolete and defense spare parts?

Yes, legacy-part reconstruction supports sustainment planning. The Defense & Obsolescence page explains unclassified self-service and the separate requirements discussion for controlled data.

Does Voluminate certify a replacement part?

No. Your engineering release, inspection and sector-specific approval process establishes suitability and interchangeability.
